Evaluation
My Music Magazine front cover has some similarities of a real music magazine like the basic of every magazine i.e. bar code, price, and date are positioned down bottom. My masthead is in big font and positioned in the top left corner of the page, like most magazines. The main cover image is always in the middle and is cropped as a full page to attract the audience and bring the main “story” out. My main cover line is in big purple font so that it can stand out from the rest of the text, making the readers know what’s the main “story”. In my “main” cover line I have used basic mode of address like “slang” language and exclamation marks. My cover lines are placed on the left hand side of the page and are in simple smaller text like in most magazines moreover I have add “sell lines” on the right hand side of the page. The graphic I used are highlighted in a banner and has a special offer saying, “Free magazine for every reader”.
My Music Magazine represents certain social groups like “young teenagers” and our aim are to the make sure it falls into the hip-hop industry. My cover shows a contrast between old fashion and modern style as like “hip-hop and peace makers”. Hip-hop is one of the most watched genres and teenagers love seeing new things therefore having thought of what hip-hop involves I try to add interesting stories to my music magazine. The two girls are looking into the camera showing a lot of emotion and connecting with the audience however, “Elizz” is looking down and is mostly showing his hat, showing that this is a type of pose to make the audience wonder who it is and want to find out who the person is too.
The music magazine is aimed at the hip-hop industries and a twist of peace makers, which doesn’t often blends together in a music magazine but overall it is meant to stand out in the hip-hop category. I believe that the media institution suitable for my magazine should belong to a big company so that the magazine should become worldwide.
The target readers for my magazine should be urban teenagers and young adults who are interested in hip-hop music. To make the target readers interested I added strap line like “50cent Exclusive interview” to target and attract new readers.
I used different techniques to grab reader’s attention. The colours in the magazine make it stand out from other hip-hop magazine and I also used bold fonts to grab readers attention when there scanning through the magazine shelves. There are some Photoshop editing used in my magazine to improve the quality of the picture.
The technology from the process of the magazine help me learn that Photoshop is actually not that difficult to use and there are many functions that I can use on my own image or college work.
If I had a chance to make my magazine a better one I would have made the front cover image stand out even more and also make sure that the image actually connects with the audience (includes the people, clothes and the arrangement) and the genre. Moreover, I would have typed up more advertising stories to attract the readers to buy it. Through many effort I put in to this work I am pleased on my outcome and enjoyed every practical work.

Evaluation
The Masthead is title of the magazine, which is NY, which is in bold and white at the top left corner. The Banner is the strap across the top of the page, which is ultimate magazine for teenagers. This shows who the target audience is. The graphic is price, which says only £2.50, which is in a black hexagon written in blue. The main cover image is me and there are some cover lines on the right hand side. The bare code is at the bottom, the main cover line is Ellzz is back which the main story is and the strapline is the sub heading called hip hops greatest. The sub heading also attracts audiences for people who like hip-hop. These are all conventions of a magazine, which I think I have done well by having them all on my music magazine cover.
My music magazine covers a social group for mainly teenagers because the banner says whom it is for. In addition, teenagers are mostly like to listen to hip-hop, the main picture of the magazine is of me, and I am a teenager. In addition, there is a picture of 50cent who is well known to teenagers. It is also for other people that listen to hip-hop because not only teenagers listen to hip-hop. Hip-hop is for a variety of people and can really be listened to by anyone who likes it.
The type of media institution, which might distribute my magazine, is the hip-hop magazines itself and the radio. The reason for hip-hop magazines is because the genre of my magazine is hip-hop and it being in a hip-hop magazine will be able to help the target audience to know what the latest and new coming artists. Also the radio because when your listening to your hip hop music you will be able to hear the latest hip hop magazines out. In addition, why listening to a tune they will be hearing the artist and will be able to refer to magazines knowing the artist.
The audience for this magazine is for teenagers and young adults. The reason for this is that the main image is of a teenager. That shows the most of the music magazine is going to be about young teenager hip-hops. It will attract young adults because if the genre and maybe the dress code, what I am wearing. It may also attract other audiences. E.G people that like 50cent. 50cent is a well know hip-hop artist and people are used of seeing him and no what he looks like. The reason for this is that theirs a picture of him in the bottom left corner.
It attracted the teenage audience in many different ways. One of the reasons is that it has a main picture of me. I am a teenager and audiences will be able to see that. Also the picture of 50cent. Teenagers and young adults no him and having seen him they will want to buy the magazine.
I also used big bold font this will grab people’s attention because it is easy for them to see. I also had a sub heading of hip hops greatest which will mean the best of hip-hop in which many people will want to buy because it has the best.
From the process of constructing my magazine cover, I have learnt many different techniques. I have learnt how to use Microsoft Photoshop, which we used to make our front covers. It made the front covers realistic like it was actual magazine from the shop. I also learnt many different attributes u can use in Photoshop e.g. cutting a picture from a background. I also learnt all the main conventions of magazines, which will help me for later projects. I liked my music magazine cover because I used most of the conventions. I liked the colours I used blue, black, white they all went in well together. I also used my own picture, which was unusual because no one from my group did that. I also used different fonts. That also made it realistic.
If I was to make another front cover this time, it will be different colour and will have a different layout. I would probably take a picture sum were else e.g. music studio this will make it much more realistic for a hip-hop genre. I would also put more pictures but fade them into the background to make it more realistic. I may also would like to do a group photo because they stand out quite a lot.
Daniel's evaluation
Hip-Hip is a genre plagued with negativity and rebellion. My magazine cover aims to disassociate hip-hop with that serotype. Use of colour played a big role in doing so. I chose a white background to give the cover a fresh and peaceful appeal to it, but vibrant text to give it an energetic twang to it as well as to look appealing. Also however I wanted the cover to show that hip-hop means an appreciation of music. So although the main image was of a rapper which would be expected on a hip-hop magazine the second largest image was of the band ‘Peace Makers’ who don’t look like they would typically fall into the hip hop category. This was to appeal to a larger market but again to show the diversity of our magazine.
Our magazine is aimed at hip-hop enthusiasts but anyone who likes music so any shops selling magazine would sell ours so it is accessible to any. As well as what’s stated above we used one of hip-hops iconic figures to help attract people to our magazine. We included an interview with 50 cent. His picture is the smallest of the three because my cover focuses on fresh new talent but is placed near the top of the page so when on a self and glanced at it would be able to be seen to show we talk on the established artist in hip-hop as well. Also people will tend to buy something they recognise or can identify with and an establish artist would achieve that more than new ones. Referring back to the main image of rapper ‘ELLZ’ I chose to put a car speakers and I microphone behind him to related to the text next to him but to show the lavish lifestyle associate with hip hop in a more humbled way with the focus on him as the text oval covers most of the car.
I have learnt that technology has come a long way in making this magazine cover. To see how far pictures have come, even from the clarity of pictures due to mega pixel cameras to the editing of them in Photoshop. Even how easy it is now to transfer images directly from a camera to a computer, printer etc, in comparison to film cameras that use to have to be processed in a dark room. Photoshop allows you to do so much with images like cutting out objects or people and putting them in another completely different picture, cloning images, duplicating them flipping and rotating etc means you can be as creative as you want with images.
If I was to make another front cover I would make it more traditional to approach it at a different angle to what I have produced. Like use one image to be the background as well as my main image as in most magazines. And had banners and cover lines in the traditional places, to ensure a look that regular magazine buyers would be familiar with and mite feel more comfortable with. Also the arrangement of my magazine could be different like having a known artist as the main story to really show we are a hip hop magazine that knows bout who’s hot as opposed to knowing more about who’s new. I would try a different colour background to white as well to see if I could give the magazine a more interesting. All in all doe I am pleased with the work I was able to produce and enjoyed working on this project.

My Evaluation!x
My magazine front cover uses some of the main conventions of normal magazine coves. for example the masthead is at the top left hand side and is very bold like most mastheads in magazines. Also i have made sure that i included the bar code and price down the bottom like other magazines. My issue number and date is at the top underneath the masthead which is similar to some magazines but not all. I have used a graphic in my cover to highlight the fact that there are free posters in the contents of the magazine, this will help to sell the magazine. My magazines main cover image is in the center as this helps draw the attention of my audience to this magazine and this is also another main convention of not only music magazines but magazines in general. I have used a very basic sample of mode of address thus being exclamation marks, which helps to connect with the reader as being a interesting/exciting story. I also saw banners as being important on a magazine front cover and although they are usually used to describe the magazine i thought i could use it for another purpose and so i decided to place one down the bottom of the page to highlight an interview with an artist connected with the genre of the magazine. My main cover line shows the main 'story' in our magazine which in my case is the new twist to the genre of Hip-Hop; 'Hippy-Hop'. I have also used cover lines or 'sell lines' on the cover so as to help capture the attention of the readers. We also as a group decided not to make different issues E.g. summer, winter autumn and spring; but to make 5 covers of the same issue and make them collectors edition, you need all 5 for the set.
My magazine cover not only represents a young teenage male social group it also touches on a teenage-y hippyish social group. we decided to combine the two as it will help get a wider range of a target audience. Also the 'Hippy' style has made a come back amongst teenage girls and with this in mind we decided to implant the new trend into the magazine to draw in the attention of them.
All the images on the front cover of the Artists, whether they are up and coming or already well known, all help to represent different social groups. Whilst the main cover image isn't for a typical Hip-Hop magazine i have used other pictures which are. The Main cover image represents a style which is around 30 years old and has hardly been seen for most of these years.
The type of media institution which may distribute my magazine are those that are in the 'Hip-Hop' music institution. the reason for this being first and formost the magazine is a general 'Hip-Hop' music magazine. the could distribute it to raise sales and help the target audience become more aware of new up and coming artists but also helps them to stay in touch with the already famous and well know artists. I may also take some kind of Indie or Hippy media institution into consideration as on my front cover it is trying to branch out into other kinds of social groups.
The audience for my music magazine would be typical teenegers and young adults, the reason for this being this is the type of music a vast majority listen to. To be particularly specific i think my magazine may reach out to a more young black audience as most of the artists specifically adress this audience. One thing which i like about my music cover is that we have combined two very different styles hoping to create a larger target audience for the magazine itself.
I adressed my audience by using various different techniques. Firstly the bright colours halp to grab the attention of my audience which is always a key thing. Then the masthead of the magazine, altough short and simple, is very catchy and useful. I Have also used Code Of Adress, this helps draw the reader into the magazine by actually involving them.
I have lernt a lot of techniques whilst making my front cover which i will take on and use in other stages of my media career. Dor instance i have learned how to use photoshop which is extremly handy as it helps to edit photos and change them to how i want them to be changed. I have also learnt the main conventions of not only a music magazine but magazines in particular which will help me for later projects.
If i was to make another magazine front cover i would probably spend more time anaylising a couple of other covers in the style which i am going to do. E.g. fashion magazine, music magazine etc. I would also take more time out to get the usual conventions perfect without cluttering my cover.
Overal i am happy with the work i have done on my cover and am confident that i have done it to satisfaction.
Continuing Front Cover
I checked what my group had on their magazine and add certain features they had on mine therefore we would have some similarities.
Lauren's Evaluation
My magazine front cover has the typical conventions that real magazines use. My masthead was in the top-left corner and had the biggest boldest font so it stood out more than anything else. I also made the main cover line stand out by using bright colours and a different font to the rest of the texts. Other cover terminology I used was boxed text. At the bottom of the page I was giving away free posters so to make it stand out I put the text into a box. I put a bar code, along with the price, at the bottom of the page to make it look more real like other magazines. I done all this for my magazine front cover so it was like other magazines and so it looked a lot more authentic.
The representations of the people on the front cover are very different. While two of the images match the genre of the magazine the main image has a totally different theme. The main image represents a very old style which is not often seen in this day and age. The way the people are posed and how they are dressed shows just what they are representing. With the one on the left with the 'peace' sign sends the signal that she may be a hippie. Also the way they are both dressed and with the signs on their faces makes the reader feel like they are hippies. This could help get another separate audience to the audience the magazine is originally aiming at.
The media organization which might issue our magazine would be from the ‘hip-hop’ music institution. This is because it is a ‘hip-hop’ music magazine. This will help the fans keep up with all of the new up and coming artists and stay up to date with already established artists. Also a couple of the front covers we used could be appealing to other social groups such as the ‘hippie’ groups.
My magazine aims towards a teenage audience but it also has a slight reference to an older generation because of the ‘hippie’ twist. Because of this it might attract an older audience who might be put off by the hip-hop theme.
I addressed the audience by using all sorts of media techniques. I used a catchy masthead which was also colourful to make it stand out even more. I also tried to make the magazine as colourful as possible to make it stand out and catch the audiences attention.
During this media project I have learnt a lot. Not only have I learnt new media techniques to do with magazines but I have also learnt to use Photoshop which wont only help me for collage but could help in later life.
If I would have to do another magazine front cover I would probably make it a more conventional ‘hip-hop’ magazine cover. I would still keep all the bright colours and fonts but the images would change because their too different and could make it less sellable.
Although I have had to go through a lot of obsticals to make the perfect magazine I am happy with the final result and im proud of how good it looks.
Magazine Cover Continued.
We edited some of the fonts on our covers so that they were all basically the same, this way you can see a consistent house style through the covers. We also made sure that the contents of the front cover was the same e.g. free posters, interview with 50 Cent, colours etc.
After much tweaking and spicing up i decided that my front cover was finally finished.

Photoshoot For Our Magazine
My group decided to take various different photographs in various locations. We took a few photos in the park next to the college, this helps us tie in the theme 'hippy'. Out of all the shots we took all of them were of portrait format as they are being put onto our magazine front covers and its an A4 piece of paper.
We also took some photos in the college. when doin this we particullaly thought about levels. the reson being if a photograph is being taken looking upwards it makes the subject lok dominant and powerfull and if its taken looking down at the subject it makes it look small and vunerable. As we are doing a 'Hip-Hop' magazine we took a few images looking upwards as 'Hip-Hop' artists are seen as being big, strong and powerful.
We took some pictures on a contrasting background as we feel that we would like to cut images out and put them onto different backgrounds. we also took a number of close-ups as we feel that on most magazines' front page there is an image of a person(s) which is usuallly a close up.

Our Magazine Cover
Once we had done this we were given a brief which asked us to create our own Music magazine. In our group we brainstormed down music genres including R'n'B, Hip-Hop,Indie,Garage and Funky House but in the end decide we would like to do a mix of Indie and Hip-Hop.
We then had to decide on a title for our magazine. With much thought we came up with NY. We then decided that as we wanted to do both Hip-Hop and Indie genres of music that one of the issues of the magazine would be sub-headed as 'Hippy-Hop'.
