Photoshoot For Our Magazine

In yesterdays lesson we were given cameras in our groups, the reason being we were to have a 'photoshoot' for our magazine to get our front cover image.

My group decided to take various different photographs in various locations. We took a few photos in the park next to the college, this helps us tie in the theme 'hippy'. Out of all the shots we took all of them were of portrait format as they are being put onto our magazine front covers and its an A4 piece of paper.

We also took some photos in the college. when doin this we particullaly thought about levels. the reson being if a photograph is being taken looking upwards it makes the subject lok dominant and powerfull and if its taken looking down at the subject it makes it look small and vunerable. As we are doing a 'Hip-Hop' magazine we took a few images looking upwards as 'Hip-Hop' artists are seen as being big, strong and powerful.

We took some pictures on a contrasting background as we feel that we would like to cut images out and put them onto different backgrounds. we also took a number of close-ups as we feel that on most magazines' front page there is an image of a person(s) which is usuallly a close up.

Photoshoot

Yesterday our tasks was to decide what kind of background is suitable for the magazine and to actually take the pictures. We given the camera and I took the photos' of of my group in different parts of the areas; the park view, building space, and blank walls for close-up photoshoot.

Our Magazine Cover

In todays lesson we were put into groups and had to analyse a magazine front cover. The music magazine cover which we had to analyse was MOJO magazine. We started off analysing it by brain storming the denotations E.g. the bar code, the strap line, the main image etc. We then wrote down connotations of the magazine E.g. Men aged 30-40+ read this magazine, it has a religious reference etc.

Once we had done this we were given a brief which asked us to create our own Music magazine. In our group we brainstormed down music genres including R'n'B, Hip-Hop,Indie,Garage and Funky House but in the end decide we would like to do a mix of Indie and Hip-Hop.

We then had to decide on a title for our magazine. With much thought we came up with NY. We then decided that as we wanted to do both Hip-Hop and Indie genres of music that one of the issues of the magazine would be sub-headed as 'Hippy-Hop'.

Research

we analysed a magazine front cover called MOJO.  we looked closely at the magazine making denotations and conotations around the image. we came to the conclution that it was a rock ballad mag because of the bands that where placed on the front cover. we then had to go on and start putting ideas down for our own magazine.

We got into groups and looked at a few music magazine covers. We then analysed it and had some questions to answer on it. We then looked at what music magazine covers contain e.g Masthead, banner. We then got told we had to think of ideas for our own music magazine so we discussed it in our groups e.g genres, titles, target audiences. We then come up with hip hop as our genre and discussed more ideas on it.

Magazine Research

In today's media lesson I was put into groups of fours to analyse a music magazine called MOJO. I look closely at the magazine to write about what kind of readers read the magazine. I also arrowed MOJO front cover to point out where things are. i.e. Masthead, graphic, banner, main cover image, cover lines, bar code and strapline. 

After finishing the tasks my group had to write a brief brainstorm of our magazine that will be producing soon in this month. The majority decided to do HIp-hop as our main genre for the magazine and the magazine would be called NY(New York).
